How Much Does YouTube Pay for 1 Million Views?

Updated October 11, 2026 · Official specs checked against YouTube Help on October 11, 2026

Short answer

1 million views pay your RPM × 1,000. With an RPM of $2, that is about $2,000; with an RPM of $8, about $8,000. YouTube does not publish a standard rate, so the only reliable figure is the RPM shown in your YouTube Studio.

The formula

RPM is what you earn per 1,000 views, after YouTube’s share. One million views are 1,000 blocks of 1,000 views, so:

Earnings for 1,000,000 views = RPM × 1,000

If your RPM is…1 million views pay about…
$0.50$500
$1$1,000
$2$2,000
$5$5,000
$10$10,000

These RPM values are examples to show the calculation, not averages. Your channel’s RPM can be lower or higher.

Why two channels with 1 million views earn different amounts

  • Topic. Advertisers pay more to reach viewers who are about to spend money in their category.
  • Audience location. Ad prices are not the same in every country.
  • Long videos or Shorts. Shorts revenue comes from a monthly pool shared by engaged views, and creators keep 45% of their allocation, according to YouTube Help. Long videos earn from ads shown with each video.
  • Timing. Advertising budgets change during the year.
  • Other income. RPM also includes memberships, Premium, Super Chat and Super Stickers, so channels with an engaged community can have a higher RPM.

One million views in one video or across a channel

The formula works for any group of views: one viral video, a month of uploads, or a whole channel. Just use the RPM for the same period and the same type of video, since YouTube Studio can show different RPMs for long videos and Shorts.

Before you count on it

  • Views only earn ad revenue once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program: today 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 public watch hours in the last 365 days or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. The monetization checker shows where you stand.
  • Estimates are before tax.
  • From February 1, 2027, YouTube says Shorts revenue sharing will require 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days.
