YouTube Channel Name Generator

Updated October 11, 2026 · Official specs checked against YouTube Help on October 11, 2026

Describe your channel in a word or two, pick a style, and get thirty name ideas. Each one comes with the @handle it would give, checked against YouTube’s length rules.

How to use the name generator

  1. Type what your channel is about: “coffee”, “retro games”, “budget travel”.
  2. Add your first name or nickname if you want a personal channel.
  3. Choose a style: fun, professional or short. “Any style” mixes all three.
  4. Click Show other names as often as you like: the list is shuffled each time.

Channel name and handle: two different things

Your channel name is the title people see on your channel page and under your videos. Your handle is the unique @name in your channel’s address, like youtube.com/@yourname.

According to YouTube Help, a handle:

  • is 3 to 30 characters long in the Latin alphabet;
  • uses letters or numbers, and may contain underscores, hyphens, periods or Latin middle dots, but not at the start or the end;
  • is not case-sensitive and cannot look like a web address or a phone number;
  • must not already be taken.

The generator builds a handle from each name by removing spaces and punctuation, and flags the ones that are too long. Availability can only be checked in YouTube itself, when you set your handle.

What makes a good channel name

  • Easy to say out loud. If a friend cannot spell it after hearing it once, viewers will not find it in search.
  • A hint of your topic, without locking you in. “Budget Travel Lab” tells people what to expect; a name tied to one country is harder to grow beyond.
  • Short enough for a handle. The closer the handle is to the name, the easier you are to tag and mention.
  • Yours alone. Search YouTube and the web before deciding, and avoid names that copy a brand or another creator.

Next steps

Once you have a name, the rest of your channel identity follows: a profile picture that reads at small sizes and a banner with your name inside the safe area.

FAQ

Can I change my YouTube channel name later?

Yes: in YouTube Studio, open Customization, then Profile, type the new name and click Publish. YouTube Help says you can change it twice within 14 days, that a change can take a few days to show everywhere, and that it removes a verification badge if you have one.

Is my channel name the same as my handle?

No. The name can contain spaces and capitals; the handle is a single unique word of 3 to 30 characters.

Does this tool check if a name is available?

No. It runs in your browser and does not query YouTube. Check availability when you set your handle in YouTube Studio.
